TikTok to MP3: Extract Audio From a Saved Video
To turn a saved TikTok video into an MP3, extract the audio from your local MP4 with a media tool such as FFmpeg. KeepTik saves supported video files on a desktop computer; it does not export MP3 or extract a song from a TikTok link. The steps below start with a file you already have permission to use.
Start with a saved MP4 and FFmpeg
Put your video in a working folder and keep the original. Open a terminal in that folder. The examples call the input video.mp4; replace that name with your actual filename and keep quotation marks around paths containing spaces.
Install a build linked from the official FFmpeg download page. Follow the instructions for your operating system, then run ffmpeg -version and ffprobe -version. If either command is not found, finish its installation or use the executable’s full path before continuing.
This is a computer workflow. It does not install KeepTik on an iPhone or Android phone and does not ask you to upload a private video to a converter.
Check that the video has an audio track
Inspect the first audio stream. If the streams list is empty, that file has no audio stream to extract. If the codec is aac, the M4A stream-copy option below may be useful. Other codecs require an appropriate output container or re-encoding.
ffprobe -v error -select_streams a:0 -show_entries stream=codec_name,sample_rate,channels -of json "video.mp4"Convert the saved video’s audio to MP3
Run the command below. -map 0:a:0 selects the first audio stream in the input; -vn excludes video. libmp3lame is the MP3 encoder, and -b:a 192k sets the requested audio bitrate. The output is a new file called audio.mp3; the original video is retained.
If the output already exists, choose another filename rather than overwriting a file you want to keep. An Unknown encoder error means your FFmpeg build lacks libmp3lame; choose a build that includes it. A stream-map error can mean that the input has no audio track.
Open the resulting MP3 in your intended player. Listen to the start and end, check the duration and confirm the sound you wanted is present. If the original clip contains speech over music, both remain: extraction does not separate them.
ffmpeg -i "video.mp4" -map 0:a:0 -vn -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 192k "audio.mp3"Alternatively, copy an AAC track to M4A
When inspection reports AAC and your player accepts M4A, use stream copy. -c:a copy keeps the encoded audio rather than running it through another lossy encoder. This produces an M4A file, not an MP3. Do not just rename an M4A extension to .mp3.
This example is specifically for an AAC source. If FFmpeg reports that the codec is unsuitable for the container, stop and choose an output format that supports that codec, or use the MP3 conversion above.
ffmpeg -i "video.mp4" -map 0:a:0 -vn -c:a copy "audio.m4a"What the commands can and cannot improve
Setting 192 or 320 kb/s controls the output encoder; it cannot recover information already lost in the source. For example, transcoding a lower-bitrate AAC track to a larger MP3 can increase file size without adding detail. Keep the original if you may need another format later.
A saved short video contains only the audio delivered with that clip. Audio extraction cannot supply the rest of a commercial song, recover an absent soundtrack or establish permission to redistribute it.
How we checked these examples
On 30 October 2026, we ran the commands with FFmpeg and ffprobe 9.0.2 on macOS using a generated three-second test video: 320 × 240 H.264 video and a 44.1 kHz AAC sine tone. This sample was created locally; it was not a TikTok download or a test of a particular creator’s video.
ffprobe reported one MP3 audio stream at 44.1 kHz and 192,000 bit/s in the MP3 output, and one AAC stream at 44.1 kHz in the copied M4A. Both reported a three-second duration. These checks validate the command examples for that sample, not every file or player.
If you still need the original desktop video, first read KeepTik’s supported content and formats. Once it is saved, the extraction happens in FFmpeg, outside KeepTik.
